So, vacation
season is coming up. Some of you are looking forward to the time to get
away to the beach, the mountains or…you name it. It’s easy to let the
thought of vacation distract us from our spiritual, as well as earthly,
duties. It’s easy to forget to thank God for those blessings we
experience every day, and praise Him for His constant love and guidance.
We forget to worship. What is worship? Worship is talking to God;
it is hands raised out of reverence, songs of praise lifted up, just the word
“awe”. Yet, the thought of a getaway can easily cause us to lose
our focus. Jesus said in John 15:4 “Abide in Me, and I in you. As
the branch cannot bear fruit by itself, unless it abides in the vine, neither
can you, unless you abide in Me.” How can anyone expect to grow in their
walk with Christ, if they do not abide in Him? Abiding in Him means to
remain in Him, or keep to Him. We cannot bear Christian fruit if we are
not walking in Him. If we remain in Him, and give all praise and glory to
Him, we can know His peace. That is the whole point of a vacation
right? Most people go on vacations to escape the stress that life brings
and just relax and have a little peace. Well, I’m going to tell you
something that I am just beginning to discover myself… The stress will only
become more and more burdensome as life goes on.
So, as you begin
to think about that long awaited summer rendezvous, think of how much more
meaningful it would be if you could rest in the peace that only God can provide.
Because if you give all burdens to Him, and praise Him through the storm, He
can give you peace that surpasses all understanding. John 14:27 says
“Peace I leave with you; My peace I give to you. Not as the world gives do I
give to you. Let not your hearts be troubled, neither let them be
afraid.” So let’s worship Him for all He’s done and continues to
do. Then, we can rest in His peace and the bliss it brings! So,
when you go on vacation this year…don’t forget to take Jesus with you:)
